06-25-2026 - 6:00 AM - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, and the forecast high is a cool 95 degrees. Enjoy, because several 100-degree days are coming up. I mowed the back yard yesterday evening. I might get the front and side yards today. There’s nothing radio-related on the schedule today - no nets, meetings, or other local happenings. Yesterday, in Childress, the Texas Department of Public Safety held a service at Childress High School to honor Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero, who was tragically killed in the line of duty last week. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
--- 6:05 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. South wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 76. South wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

--- 6:15 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 83.3% Kemp: 98.0% Kickapoo: 90.4%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 90.8% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (86.85%) to determine drought stage.
--- 6:56 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 9,545 Megawatts.
--- 7:05 AM - UPDATED - International Space Station Passes Over Wichita Falls
--- 8:40 AM - Foster Crawford and Elmer Lewis, the two guys who, in 1896, robbed the bank downtown, killed clerk Frank Dorsey and wounded teller P.P. Langford, are buried in a single grave in Riverside Cemetery. Frank Dorsey is also buried in Riverside Cemetery. The robbers/murderers have a better headstone than most other Riverside residents. In case you didn’t know, Texas does not recognize accomplices. Whether you’re inside the bank robbing and killing, or outside tending to the getaway horses, all participants are charged with the same crime. I think they were both inside, but you get my point.

--- 1:10 PM - I just saw a news item about a store employee hiding a winning lottery ticket purchased by a customer. Solution: Always sign your lottery ticket before handing it over to someone who can drop it on the floor and pick up a different ticket.
--- 3:00 PM - In the days before cell phones and encrypted police radios, a female police officer (not in the Wichita Falls area) stopped at a drive-up pay phone (remember those) and called her boyfriend. Somehow, the phone and her epaulet-mounted police radio speaker-microphone got together, keyed the microphone, and broadcast every word of what she was going to do to her boyfriend when she got off work. The on-duty PD was entertained and the scanning community got their money's worth that day. More Police Snippets
--- 5:00 PM - Amateur (ham) Radio Operators, have you considered doing a "pop-up" special event? For example, pull up on the parking lot of the Meteor Crater in Arizona, pick a 20-meter frequency, and start calling CQ as a Meteor Crater Special Event". Pick an interesting location near you. You can have details on obtaining a contact certificate on your QRZ page or your personal website. It might help to have a certificate already designed and ready to mail, printed on demand. Anyone can do that with MS Word or WordPerfect.
--- 5:30 PM - I saw a big version of what I call a “grass spider” in the house, near the back door. You’ve seen them crawling in the grass near your house, or near the driveway or patio when you mow the yard. I grabbed a bottle of Formula 409 and gave him a spurt. I expected him to run on the first spurt, and I’d have to be quick with the second and third doses. Nope! That spider did his animated dying act in place, right away. That didn’t save him from additional insurance spurts. Formula 409 is a great "contact” bug killer. I've used it to dispatch everything from the Brown Recluse to the Black Widow.
--- 6:05 PM - I hear a couple of the Local Group guys on CB Radio Channel 23. Maybe more will show up later. On an unrelated note, I mowed my front and side yard this morning. That was the extent of my labor. I haven't even made any attempts at Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air CW (Morse code) contacts.
--- 8:53 PM - The Wichita County Amateur Radio Skywarn® storm spotter Net Control Station advised of a National Weather Service update that places Wichita County in a marginal risk area for severe weather until 4:00 AM. Tune in to these updates at 146.940 MHz on your scanner radio.
--- 9:30 PM - I seriously think someone's fireworks stash accidentally caught fire a few blocks away, because firecrackers and other items have been exploding continuously for the past 5 minutes.
