06-22-2026 - 6:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Monday, once again. I have a "locked down" X (formerly Twitter) account that I use exclusively for research. A recurring post shows President Nixon speaking with the Apollo astronauts by telephone. More than a few people called “BS” on the photo because, well, you can't reach astronauts in orbit, or on the Moon, by telephone. I suppose they were unfamiliar with a phone patch or autopatch, a device that connects a two-way radio to a phone line. Many calls were made from and to the USA by service members using this simple technology. Then there is the one with the Amateur (ham) Radio Operator pointing a dual-band handheld antenna skyward, attempting to make contact with the International Space Station with a handheld radio. More calls of “BS.” People need to get out of the house more and touch some grass and some radios! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 7:00 AM - From the TDCJ website: The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has over 100 prison units throughout the state and employs approximately 20,000 Correctional Officers. From RadioMan763: TDCJ is always in the hiring mode, even in Wichita Falls. If you're willing to move, you can always find a Correctional officer opening somewhere in the state. Tune in to the James V. Allred Unit daily operations at 153.815 MHz on your scanner radio.
--- 7:15 AM - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) recently announced the expansion of the Texas Rangers’ Unsolved Crimes Investigation (UCIP/Cold Case) Program across the state. This is a specialized unit dedicated to solving cold case murders and sexual assaults. So, if you're in Wichita Falls and you think you got away with it, you might want to rethink that.

--- 9:25 AM - I was still in high school (1966-70) when I rode, or drove (probably rode) past the MB Corral on Sheppard Access Road and saw, on the marquee, Conway Twitty. I thought, What kind of name is that? So, in 2026, I decided to look him up on Wikipedia. There, I saw "In The Billboard Book of Number One Hits, Fred Bronson states that the singer named himself after two towns on a map; Conway, Arkansas, and Twitty, Texas, and chose the name Conway Twitty." You might think, after reading this, that I am not a country and western music fan. You would be correct.
--- 10:30 AM - The Economics Daily
--- 12:40 PM - The always-elusive Alaska is on the air with a station in Upper Chatanika River State Recreation Site. I can barely hear his CW (Morse code) signal. By elusive, I mean as far as Parks on the Air goes. This is because stations in parks are usually running relatively low power into wire antennas. I've “worked” Alaska before, just not for POTA. Maybe later.
--- 6:15 PM - The Local Group is active on CB Radio Channel 23. Sometimes I listen, and sometimes I just check whether they're still alive. This is one of those nights where I just check whether they're still alive. Tune in with your scanner radio, or join in with your CB Radio.

--- 7:10 PM - As a kid, I knew I would always be interested in radio communications. In the old movies, a Sheriff's car rolling up with one of those long whip antennas would never fail to get my attention. In later years, it was the pocket-sized, then ink pen-sized two-way radios seen in the "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." TV series. I can still see Napoleon Solo saying, "Open Channel D, overseas relay." I recall a day when I sat in class at school and drew those small radios instead of doing whatever I was supposed to be doing, like, you know, shooting spit wads or something.
--- 7:15 PM - A new restaurant, Bliss House Breakfast & Lunch, has opened at 1611 Pearlie Drive in Wichita Falls. This is the former location of Renaissance Pear. I call your attention to the fact that this is on the north side of town, while everyone seems to want to open on the south side. Thank you, Bliss House! I wish you much success!
